Pizza Infographic: A Slice of Pizza History - Timeline

While the history of Hungry Howie’s dates back to 1973, pizza’s history dates back hundreds of years to the 17^th century, when flatbreads with toppings were sold by street vendors. By the mid-20^th century, World War II veterans were coming home with a newfound love of pizza and introducing it to locals. Some began by opening their own pizza shops that remain open to this day.

In 1957, Americans were introduced to the first frozen pizza. Pizza chains developed shortly thereafter and quickly began to expand across the U.S. In the 1980s, Hungry Howie’s revolutionized the often tossed aside pizza crust by unveiling its Flavored Crust™. The rest, as they say, is history!
