Football Season is Pizza Season

At both the collegiate and professional level, football season is back. From Saturday through Sunday, football fans engage in watching their teams take on rivals in hopes of getting to the big game.

Even those who do not have a chance to go to live games will still be able to enjoy watching back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday. If you're one of the fans who chooses to stay home on game days, it's likely you're ordering pizza (or wings).

Pizza is one of the top consumed foods in America and, according to the Pizza Power Report, more than 53% of pizza lovers are between the ages of 25 and 44. Approximately 48% of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) fans are between the ages of 18 and 54, and on average, National Football League (NFL) games are watched by 17.4 million people. It's no surprise that pizza is a game day staple in most households.

If you're a fan of both pizza and football, consider ordering based on your team or exploring new regional flavors.

Pick a Pizza Based on Your Favorite Team

Choosing a pizza based on your favorite team means choosing something the team's hometown may be known for. If you're a fan of the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Chicken Pizza may be your go-to choice. Hungry Howie's Pizza was first started in Taylor, Michigan, so if you're a Wolverines or Spartans fan, just about any Hungry Howi's Pizza may go over well with you.

Football fans in the South and Midwest, where BBQ reigns supreme, may enjoy a BBQ Chicken Pizza on game day. A Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger may be the best option for California football fans, as the cheeseburger is believed to have originated in Pasadena, California. Of course, for Philadelphia Eagles and Temple University fans, the Philly Cheese Steak Pizza is a must.

Explore New Options

If you're not interested in any of the specialty pizzas, consider creating your own using regional flavors. For example, Virginia fans may choose to only order a pizza with cheese and ham. States where steak is one of the most popular foods, like Texas, may want to order a pizza with just steak and cheese or maybe even the Meat Eaters Pizza.

No matter your favorite team in the NFL or NCAA, you're sure to find a pizza that fits your needs. Don't forget the wings, soda and Howie Brownie to make the meal complete.
